Preserve
Portraits

The mission of the Foundation is to preserve, maintain, restore and enhance
those literary, historical and artistic properties which are entrusted to it by
the Dialectic and Philanthropic Literary Societies of the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Supporting the
Dialectic Society

The Dialectic Society is the oldest student organization on campus by 1 month. Since 1795 the students have been practicing speech and debate. The current Dialectic Society Hall was erected in the 1800s.

Supporting the
Philanthropic Society

The Philanthropic Society, formed just 1 month after the Dialectic Society, is the second oldest student organization at UNC. It was formed in protest of the heavy handed rule-making in the Dialectic Society, taking the rallying cry of "LIBERTAS!" to make their love of liberty known.
